IntheCan Studios is led by filmmaker Tanner Charnstrom. Drawing on years of experience on commercial sets and in commercial production, Tanner brings a considered approach to directing, cinematography, and editing.

Clients work directly with Tanner throughout creative development, production, and post-production. Each project is built around its goals and scope, with a network of local filmmakers supporting larger productions.

The name behind the studio

“In the can” is a filmmaking expression for a successfully captured shot. Its origins in physical film reflect the studio’s appreciation for the craft of cinema—from 35mm projection to the tactile character of VHS.

    Start with the goal.

    We talk through your business, your audience, and what you want the commercial to achieve. We’ll discuss where it will run, your timing, and your budget to define the right approach.

    Bring an idea, a challenge, or simply a place to start. You don’t need a finished brief.

  2. CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT

    Find the right idea.

    We develop a concept and script around your message and brand. The creative direction, scope, budget, and schedule are agreed together before moving into production planning.

    You review the direction and share feedback before we move forward.

  3. PRE-PRODUCTION

    Plan the details.

    We turn the concept into a shoot plan, from storyboards and shot lists to locations, casting, and crew, as the project requires. A clear schedule gives everyone a shared picture of the day.

    You know what we’re filming, where it’s happening, and what we need from you.

  4. PRODUCTION

    Bring it to life.

    Tanner leads the filming, with a crew scaled to the project. The plan guides the day while leaving room for the performances and moments that give the commercial its character.

    We guide you through any on-camera or on-location involvement.

  5. POST-PRODUCTION & DELIVERY

    Shape the final film.

    Editing brings the story, pacing, and performances together. You review the cut and share feedback, then we refine the picture, color, and sound and prepare the agreed versions for your campaign.

    Your final films are delivered in the lengths and formats agreed for your platforms.
